VAT
Value Added Tax made simple.
Value Added Tax (VAT) affects the majority of UK businesses. It is well known for being one of the most complicated taxes and can be difficult to navigate.
VAT can be charged on a range of goods and services. If you run a charity, it is important to note that charities are governed by different tax rules.
The
Difference
Our expert team offer an extensive range of Value Added Tax services, so you can refocus your time on running your business. Some businesses unintentionally overpay or underpay without knowing, as it is a highly complex area and can be difficult to understand. With our support, we will make sure that you’re meeting the statutory requirements.
We will liaise with HMRC on your behalf and offer constructive advice on all aspects of value added tax.
You can also expect us to highlight any potential planning opportunities and keep you up to date with any relevant changes in the VAT rules – through downloadable guides on our website or on a one-to-one basis as individual advice.
We work with a range of businesses, from individuals, family run businesses to large corporate organisations. We assist clients who operate in the UK and work with those that are expanding locally, nationally and internationally to address their UK, EU and worldwide needs.

Areas that are taxable include:
Sales of your goods and/or services
The hire or loan of your goods
Commission
Exchanges e.g. swapping a new product for the exchange of the customer’s old one
Staff sales e.g. staff meals
Business goods you use personally
The sale of business assets
Purchases of most services from overseas suppliers e.g. web hosting, advertising, Stripe fees, and commissions. For non-VAT-registered businesses, the value of these expenses will count toward the UK registration threshold.
As a VAT-registered company, you must normally charge value added tax on your goods or services, and you can also reclaim VAT on those you have purchased for business-related purposes.
Don’t Just Take Our Word For It
They have always treated us like friends, rather than clients, and that personal touch works extremely well for us.
“Ormerod Rutter has, and still does, unquestionably, provided impeccable service to our family business, DNB roofing LTD, for the last six years. The continuity of encouragement and support provided from the very first day to present, has been outstanding and they have successfully guided the business through not only the highs, but throughout the lows, especially the pandemic. They have always treated us like friends, rather than clients, and that personal touch works extremely well for us. We are so very grateful to them all at OR and could not recommend them enough.”
– Dan, Managing Director of DNB Roofing LTD
