Ormerod Rutter’s Eric Fung has become part of local business group, Birmingham Chinatown Business Association (BCTBA), dedicated to enhancing the visibility and vibrancy of China Town in the city.
Members of the BCTBA include businesses local to Birmingham’s Chinese Quarter and the group has the support of local councillor Yvonne Mosquito.
The group has the ambitious goal of both campaigning and fundraising to elevate the profile of Birmingham’s Chinese Quarter. Their goal is to create a vibrant Chinatown in Birmingham which is celebrated as a tourist hotspot and serves as a bustling centre for business and culture.
Their primary objectives include introducing Chinese street name signs in the area, and constructing a distinctive Chinese Arch, symbolising not only a point of entry but also a representation of the enduring cultural presence within the city.
By creating a focal point that draws attention to the cultural significance of China Town, the project is poised to attract more visitors, foster increased foot traffic, and ultimately bolster the local economy.
During an initial meeting in December 2023, representatives from BCTBA engaged discussions with city councillors and Mayor of the West Midlands, Andy Street, to share their ambitious plans. The exchange of ideas, insights, and collaborative efforts underscored the commitment of all parties involved to the success of the project.
