Recent data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reveals an emerging trend in UK business concerns, with taxation rising to become a major worry for business owners.
Shifting Business Priorities
While economic uncertainty has consistently been cited as the highest on the list of UK business concerns in ONS surveys, a new pattern is developing. An increasing number of businesses now list tax as a key concern for the immediate future. After falling demand, tax has become the second most common challenge reported by businesses surveyed, steadily climbing the rankings since summer 2024.
This shift is understandable given recent developments, particularly the increase in employer National Insurance costs that began taking effect after April 6, 2025.
